A friend of mine texted me the other day and asked if I would be willing to baptize them. I said, Yes and Amen! I love it when people come to Jesus and jump right into being baptized. But, I also love it when followers of Jesus who have put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ for a time finally choose to get baptized. Yes, I believe and teach that believer's baptism is essential, and a person who comes to Christ Jesus should go and take that step of obedience and be baptized as soon as possible. But, it is always good when a believer is convicted and compelled by the Holy Spirit to step into this act of obedience. It's pretty hard to tell people you believe that Jesus Christ is your Saviour and Lord, but you are not willing to do one of the very first things He calls us to do because you are scared about what others will think of you or because you don't think it's that important.
Here are a couple of good messages on Baptism. I hope they spark a passion in you to obey Jesus Christ if you are a believer but have never been baptized. And if you have, I pray these remind you of your conscious choice to follow Jesus and love and obey Him no matter where He leads.
In 2 Chronicles 16:9, we are given a window into God's heart for those who walk in love-filled obedience to Him. "9 For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him."
